19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard surfaces
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for 882 days with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a torrid season, winning just one match at the big events and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in specific - led to him falling of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with former mentor Gilles Cervara.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently progressed in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested competitive triumph over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is the player's first trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt since spring of that year.
The win also signifies the Russian has secured 21 titles at 21 various tournaments.
"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to secure a trophy is really nice," commented ranked player Medvedev.
"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the first title I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, comprising in that event previously this season.
Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted commentators to doubt if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.
However the player has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to approach the net and compete aggressively, backed up by an improved serving game.
He fought back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning 4 of the final five points to go ahead.
Both players exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his first ATP Tour title, took control to force a decider.
Moutet rescued 4 early-game opportunities in a tight final set before the Russian secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Suitably, the winner clinched the title with a point at the net area, with his opponent failing to handle a volley after over two and a half hours.
